Workshops for the legal department of the future

Flank's hands-on education series for enterprise legal and legal ops teams takes you from "what even is AI" all the way to designing, building, supervising, and measuring agents in production. Taught by the people who do this for a living: Flank's legal engineers, forward-deployed team, and our legal ops partners. Delivered in person at your offices, and available online.

How it works

A syllabus for getting your team fluent in agentic AI

Most AI training is a slide deck and a hype reel. These workshops are structured like a course. You pick a track built around where your team is: total beginners, legal ops practitioners ready to build, or leaders mapping the operating model. Then we run the sessions live, with your work, in your context.

01
Choose a track
Four ready-made tracks, from a half-day foundations primer to a multi-day programme for the department of the future. Or mix sessions from the library into a track of your own.
02
In person or online
Delivered in person at your offices by default — that's where the build sessions land best. Every session can also be run online for distributed teams.
03
Taught by practitioners
Educational, not promotional. Sessions are led by Flank's legal engineers, forward-deployed team, and legal ops partners, often alongside Vantu.
04
Built around your work
The process-mining and agent-building sessions use your real intake, your playbooks, and your escalation rules — so the team leaves with something they can put to work.
The idea

Most of a legal team's capacity goes to routine, rules-based work that doesn't need the judgment those people were hired for. The interesting question was never which tool makes them faster at it. It's how that work leaves their desk altogether, under supervision they trust. You can't buy your way to that answer. You have to understand the technology well enough to shape it. These workshops get a whole team to that understanding together.

Four tracks, one path forward

Each track is a sequence of sessions designed to build on each other. Every session carries a label for who delivers it. Start with foundations, go deep on building, or take the leadership view.

Track 01 · Foundations

AI Foundations

3 sessions · ~half a day
No technical background needed
The pure-AI starting point. Three 90-minute sessions that get everyone — lawyers, ops, leadership — speaking the same language about what AI is, how agents work, and how to tell substance from sales copy.
For: anyone on the team who wants to understand AI before forming an opinion about it.
You leave with: a shared vocabulary for AI across the team, a working grasp of how agents differ from chatbots, and a set of questions that cuts through any vendor pitch.
1
What AI actually is
Large language models in plain English — what a model is, why it hallucinates, and where its limits are. No maths.
Legal Engineer 90 min
2
How agentic AI works
What turns a chatbot into an agent — tools, orchestration, and why "a tool is not an outcome".
Forward-Deployed 90 min
3
Signal vs hype
How to evaluate a legal AI claim without getting sold — what to ask, what to ignore, and what "reliable" really means.
Legal Engineer 90 min

Track 02 · Transformation

The Legal Department of the Future

5 sessions · 2–3 days
Modular — run as a block or spread over weeks
The complete programme. Start with the foundations of legal AI, mine your own function to find the work worth automating, build a real agent live, then step back to the operating model and the metrics that tell you it's working.
For: GCs, heads of legal, and legal ops leaders planning the next operating model.
You leave with: a map of your function's high-volume, automatable work, a supervised agent built live on one of your own workflows, and a measurement framework you can put in front of the board.
1
Foundations of legal AI
The 90-minute primer for legal teams — models, agents, supervision, and where the technology is genuinely reliable today.
Legal Engineer 90 min
2
Process mining your legal function
A working session on your real intake. Where the work goes, what's high volume and repeatable, and where the automation budget should land.
Legal Ops Partner 1 day
3
Building your first agent
Hands-on. Take one of the workflows you just mapped and build a supervised agent for it, live, with the team in the room.
Forward-Deployed ½ day
4
The operating model of the future
The north star, and the path to it. How supervision, escalation, and the shape of the team change when agents do the first pass.
Product & Eng Leadership 90 min
5
Measuring your organisation's output
The metrics for an agentic legal function — throughput, cycle time, cost-per-matter, and what to put in front of the board.
Legal Ops Partner 90 min
Track 03 · Practitioner

The Flank Method

5 sessions · 2–3 days
Hands-on, build-along
For teams ready to build. The discipline behind reliable agents: turning senior-lawyer judgment into instructions a machine can follow, and designing supervision in from the start.
For: legal ops and legal engineering practitioners who'll own the build.
You leave with: your first playbooks captured from your senior lawyers, an agent designed against one of your own workflows, and a supervision model your team can run from day one.
1
Legal engineering 101
The part no competitor can copy, because it's yours. Drawing your playbooks, positions, and implicit knowledge out of senior lawyers' heads and making them usable by a machine.
Legal Engineer ½ day
2
The playbook capture session
A working session with your senior lawyers. We take one contract type or process and document the positions, fallbacks, and unwritten rules they rely on — leaving you with a playbook a new joiner or an agent could run.
Legal Engineer 1 day
3
Process mining & opportunity mapping
Reading your intake data to find the workflows worth automating — high volume, repeatable, and bounded enough to supervise.
Legal Ops Partner 1 day
4
Designing supervised agents
Orchestration, integration, and guardrails. How to take the wheel back from a general-purpose model with system-directed, exhaustive, redundant review.
Forward-Deployed ½ day
5
The supervision experience
The curve from day-one line-by-line review to exception-based oversight by month three, and how human judgment feeds back in.
Legal Engineer 90 min
Track 04 · Leadership

AI for Legal Leaders

4 sessions · ~half a day
Executive briefing
A concentrated half-day for the people who set the direction: what's real and what's hype, where the operating model is heading, and how to decide between buying and building.
For: GCs, CLOs, and leadership teams. A board-ready version is available.
You leave with: a clear-eyed read on the market, an operating-model direction for your function, and a defensible answer to buy versus build.
1
The state of legal AI
What's actually shipping, what's still a demo, and how the economics of legal work are being repriced.
Product & Eng Leadership 1 hr
2
The boardroom simulation
A game-based session, co-run with our partner Vantu, that puts the leadership team inside the operating-model decisions of an AI-native legal function.
Legal Ops Partner · Vantu 2 hrs
3
The north star
What the legal department of the future looks like: the operating model, the team shape, and the path from where you are to there.
Forward-Deployed 1 hr
4
Buy vs build: evaluating providers
An honest accounting of what it takes to build your own agents, and a framework for judging providers on evidence rather than claims.
Legal Engineer 1 hr

Mix your own track

Every session is a self-contained module. If none of the four tracks fits exactly, we'll build one from the library below — matched to your team's level, the time you have, and the people you want in the room. Levels run from Foundational (no background needed) through Practitioner and Advanced (build sessions), with Leadership sessions for GCs and their leadership teams.

Who teaches

Practitioners, not a sales team

The label on each session tells you who's in the room. These are the people who build, ship, and run supervised agents inside enterprise legal functions — so the workshops are grounded in what works in production, not what demos well.

Legal Engineer
The bridge between law and machine. Trains your team and turns your senior lawyers' playbooks, positions, and fallbacks into something an agent can run reliably. Leads the foundations and legal-engineering sessions.
Forward-Deployed
Flank's forward-deployed engineers train the agents and integrate the systems inside enterprise legal functions. They run the build sessions and the agent-design deep dives.
Legal Ops Partner
Independent legal ops experts in Flank's partner network. They lead the process-mining, measurement, and leadership sessions, with a cross-industry view of how high-performing legal functions are run.
Product & Eng Leadership
The team building the platform. They take the leadership sessions on the state of legal AI and the operating model of the future: where the technology is going and what it means for your team.
Commercial Counsel
Flank's supervision lead and an experienced commercial counsel: the view from inside the supervision cockpit, from someone who works alongside agents every day.
Workshops are often co-delivered with a partner. Vantu co-hosts our leadership sessions and events, so the team hears both the build craft from Flank and the wider operating-model picture from across the industry.

Pricing

Built to fit, priced to match

A half-day foundations primer for a single team and a multi-day programme for a whole legal function are very different engagements. We scope each one with you — track, sessions, format, and who delivers them — then quote it.

Every engagement includes
  • A scoping conversation before anything is booked
  • Sessions delivered by the practitioners labelled on each one
  • Working sessions built on your own intake, playbooks, and escalation rules
  • In-person delivery at your offices, or online
  • Co-delivery with a legal ops partner where the track calls for it

Questions

The questions teams ask

Is this a sales pitch for Flank?

No. The workshops are educational, not promotional, and the people delivering them build and run agents for a living. The buy-vs-build session is an honest accounting of doing this without us, and the evaluation frameworks apply to any provider — Flank included.

Do attendees need a technical background?

No. Foundational sessions assume nothing and skip the maths. The Practitioner and Advanced sessions get practical, but they're built for legal and legal ops people, not engineers.

Who should be in the room?

Depends on the track. Foundations works for the whole team, the practitioner tracks are for the people who'll own the build, and the leadership track is for GCs, CLOs, and their leadership teams. Mixed groups work — the sessions are modular for exactly that reason.

What do you need from us?

For the working sessions: your real intake, your playbooks, and your escalation rules. That's the difference between a workshop your team remembers and one they can use the next morning.

Can we run this online?

Yes. In person at your offices is the default, because the working sessions land best in a room — but every session also runs online for distributed teams.

How does pricing work?

Per engagement. We scope the track, sessions, format, and who delivers them with you, then come back with a single quote.
